Client: ‘UnFold’ Exhibition (mock)
Categories: Illustration, Digital Design
Background:
Created for mock gallery exhibit ‘UnFold’ showcasing design through time, I designed a series of promotional graphics, to be used on postcards, tote bags, merchandise and other goodies. To reflect the gallery theme, each of the promotional graphics were in the style of iconic designers that I personally admired.
The Problem:
The promo graphics needed to connect strongly to the theme of ‘design through time’, and speak to the target audience of both younger budding designers and design enthusiasts. The overall goal was to increase awareness of the exhibition through these graphics, and apply them to marketing and merchandise for the exhibit.
The Solution
For the first design (the yellow and orange piece below), I took inspiration from Saul Bass’ work. Representing the flow of design through time, this design can be interpreted as the difference in design tools through eras (paintbrush vs pen tool), just as much as it can be seen as the unison of these tools that remains in modern design.
For the second design (the black and magenta piece below), I was inspired by Alex Trochut’s iconic tyopgraphical and abstract style of work. The work includes a nod to the subway line of Trochut’s home of New York, and the shapes and lines are a nod to the core elements of the design world.
