Client: Personal work
Categories: Illustration, Digital Design
Background:
As part of a challenge to create an illustration using only letters and numbers, I wanted to bring in my love of animals, combined with two of my favourite typefaces.
The Problem:
The challenge lay in creating a design out of purely letters and numbers, with no other lines or shapes to be used. It also needed to be eye catching enough to stand alone, without needing the support of other graphics or text.
The Solution
This abstract deer was created using two of my favourite fonts, Wolf In The City and True Blue. Working off a few reference images of deer, I began with the obvious letters (“such as using ‘y’ for an antler) and worked my way out, finishing off with a large abstract ‘z’.
This was a huge amount of fun to create, and has become one of my most favourite personal pieces that showcases how I approach an unconventional design brief.
